Front channels of av processor to BP 20/25/26
« on: 21 Aug 2013, 03:33 am »
Is there any way to connect safely, the front channels of my Marantz 8003 surround pre amp to the inputs of a bp20/25/26? I would like to dedicate the fronts to 2 channel and still have the ability to playback movies in surround. I am using a Parasound Halo A52 5 channel amp with balanced inputs.

That will work but you will have to deal with two volume controls.

True ..the Bryston will control the Volume of the OPPO outputs..  the Marantz will control the volume of the center and surrounds..but I won't have to try and balance the volumes of the Marantz outs with the Bryston ins

I also want to check out the REC analog outs of the Marantz which will allow me to use the HD AM/FM and Syrius XM built in Tuner via the Bryston

Delivery of the BP20 is set for Tuesday....I will update after I hook it up and test it out

Just run the L and R outputs of the marantz into any input on the pre. Choose a high vol level that you can repeat easily like half vol, straight up. Put your test tone on and adjust the L and R relative to the rest of the channels. Now you only have one volume control to deal with (the Marantz) just choose the input on pre set the volume to half and the 2ch system will become transparent. You will operate the Marantz as if the the 2ch system isn't there. Just remember to turn the volume down before changing inputs, a good habit to have regardless.
