USB Cable Issue
« on: 19 Aug 2013, 02:22 am »
I am beginning playing around with USB digital audio.
I just moved/renovated a house  and am just setting up.  I set up a quick system to hold me over.
Lenovo Ultrabook > Benchmark DAC2> Virtue Amp > ATC SRC11.
Anyway I bought a fancy Wireworld Silver Starlight USB cable.
It work for a bit but then cutout a few times. Then it cut out for good. I thought it might be port power management so I shut that off. No dice. Now the notebook will not see the DAC through the Wireworld cable. I have tried two cheapo printer cables and they work perfectly.
Any ideas? Please nothing on the virtues or stupidity of $$$ cables.

I would suspect some kind of defect in the cable. I have the same cable and have experienced no problems whatsoever. You might take an ohm meter and test for continuity on all four conductors. It sounds like one or more are no longer intact.

I am having the exact same issue with a Cardas Clear USB cable.

Dell Laptop running JRiver 19> Oppo 105.

I have tried 2 Cardas clear USB cables and both won 't work but a cheap printer cable works fine.  The people at Music Direct must think I am crazy.

I know it's not an issue with the computer as it did it on 3 different laptops. I doubt it's the Oppo because it works great with the cheap printer cable.

Any ideas on what's going on?

I'm using the same Wireworld cable with no glitches.  Just bought but have not tried a Kingrex uArt USB.   I guess send back the faulty cable and try again?

Check to see if you Wireworld cable is USB 1.0 or 2.0. I had a similar problem in my rig after changing DAC's. Alex at WyWires helped me figure out the problem. Once I updated to a USB 2.0 version, the problems went away. His cables and service are top notch!!!

Guess what? Wireworld sent me a new cable and confirmed that the old one was defective.
Oh yeah, the new one is defective also and communication has dried up.
I need to harass them on Monday.

You might in the future purchase cables from your local dealer over in Ashland Ma.. If something is wrong you have a local face to face contact to register a complaint with if the need arises.

Agreed! I am in no way bitching. Their initial response was awesome.
The jury is still out.
