Record cleaning machine causes static

I got a VPI record cleaning machine and it started to cause static. I was told that this is normal. Is there anything that can be done?

These shouldn't cause static?????  The moisture should allow for charge build up to drain.  I guess you could mist the area with water before cleaning, raising the humidity.  Perhaps use more cleaning solution.   :dunno:

I had the same problem with my VPI.  I'd take the record off, and then snap, crackle pop and all sorts of dust would get re-attracted to the record.  I was able to solve the problem by using a Milty Zerostat on the record cleaner.  Using the Milty Zerostat is now a normal part of my record cleaning process.  I zap each side on the machine after I clean them.  Never a static problem since I started doing this.

Either the Milty of hit it with a damp Discwasher or Parastat brush.

Yes, static will occur due to the friction of the wand on the record as well as the friction of the air rushing through the slot against the secord surface. I use a Zerostat to neutralize the charge before removing the record.

I suggest you need to get yourself a new RCM.  I've been using a manual Nitty Gritty for over 20 years and have no static after cleaning.
