Introducing Myself
« on: 17 Aug 2013, 06:10 pm »
Hi,

I am Michael Hannig and quite new to this board so it is time to introduce myself: I am 48 years old, married and enjoying my two kids. We live in the Southern part of Germany.

Hifi/ High-End is my "passion" since I was a boy. My first system was from Pioneer and I was pretty proud. Later on I developed to a Luxman L-525 integrated amp with some German speakers (Canton). The Nakamichi Dragon was always a dream since I could not afford to buy one. It is a pitty that they disappeared ...

In 2009 my wife and I made the decision to look for our "ultimate" speaker. We took our time and visited a lot of dealers here in Germany to listen to almost everything which is important in the speaker market. Finally, we purchased a VR-5 Anniv and a dream came true.

I am happy to be here and are looking forward to some nice and interesting discussions with you.

Best Michael

Indeed, welcome Michael, good to have you on board. Nice to have folks from all over the world here, and one more location for the AC VSA international tour one day:)

Welcome.  I've not heard much about Canton speakers on AC...which to me is surprising as they are probably as much high end as Selah, Von Schweikert, Salk, Axiom etal and of course the new Bryston line.  What do you like most about the Cantons and what model(s) do you have?

Yes, Canton is a very good speaker here in Germany and I owned a pair of monitor speakers about 35 years ago when I was a schoolboy. Even they are good I would not put them in the same class as VSA. Our private speaker is a VR-5 Anniv. that we purchased in 2009.

Hi Michael...I bought my VR5 Anniversaries about the same time you did.  I have McIntosh amps and front end...no plans to change a thing.  Welcome to the VSA AC!

I have not auditioned VSA gear, but Canton's can't be hiding in the grass either.  Such, I suppose, are your "reviewers".

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

McIntosh amps are a great match to VSA as Jolida is at a different price tag and in a different league.

I started to drive my VSA with my old Jeff Rowland amps, a Model 2, tried out the Jolida Fusion interestingly with better results - at least in my room.

Now, I am enthusiastic about the ModWright KWI 200 resp. KWA 150SE which are a great match to VSA too. (I should not hide that my wife is MW's distributor for Germany but what I am posting here is my private opinion as a music lover and hifi enthusiast !)

With regard to Canton and others my "problem" always was that I do not like so much metal tweeters because they tend to sound so harsh. I know this has been improved in the past couple of years but a Scanspeak Revelator or Dynaudio Esotar always worked better for me.
