Eastern Electric M88 Vavle Info
« on: 16 Aug 2013, 01:21 pm »
Hi (first post),

I have read through a few older threads about this integrated, which I now own. In general, any updated info about NOS pre-amp tubes that are favored is appreciated.

I am also considering getting some KT120s for the power stage, but am finding conflicting information in regards to biasing. Some info may be old. I have a query in with Bill from Morningstar, who assures me they work well. There are some older discussions around where he recommends against using them. What is the most reasonable method for biasing the KT120 correctly.

Thanks

(I did attempt to reply to an existing thread from 2011, but no post appeared.)

I am on the fence. I don’t suspect the ham radio crowd is as concerned with microphonics.

So, to update a dead thread no one read in the first place, I did get a quad on SED 6550Cs from Upscale Audio, and have them installed/biased. Considering they have some factory burn time, plus some at Upscale, they sound pretty good.

The major difference I am hearing is that the soundstage is a good deal deeper. The stock KT88s pushed the mids forward, which I suspect would be a very smart choice for many bookshelf speakers.

TJ Full Music pre-amp tubes are on the way, along with some Herbies tube dampers. Fingers crossed this will be a winning combination, as I am out of cash for a while.
