Lately, Audiogon and other audio classifieds, have been inundated with the sale of PS Audio Power Plants. Most of the ad's denote the fact that the units's, inparticular, the P1000 are too big to accomodate the NEW buyers rack space. So, this is why they are for sale. One can't help but think, that these people have to know prior to buying this unit, that it is indeed a beast. It tells you the dimensions even before you buy it.Some of the ad's stipulate that the unit is 1 week old, 3 weeks old, and so on.I have been interested in buying one for my audio system. But, after seeing all of the Power Plants for sale. I just can't digest the fact that all of these sellers,or most I should say, disregard the dimensions of the unit, and this is why they are for sale. Can anyone tell me there own expierence with PS products??? Thank you.

Their massive size may have contributed to a very low WAF rating, which probably forced the sale  :?

The price is going from 3000 to 3500 on 8/1/04.
Maybe there's some kind of Audiogon sellout going on?
Maybe they're dealers?

Also, some people seem to love 'em, others say it
makes the sound constricted.

I've thought about buying one and decided to wait it out. I bought one of the new 1K Power Directors instead.

I purchased a P1000 about a year ago.  The first unit suddenly failed for no reason after about a month.  A replacement unit was sent and worked fine, except it idled so hot (even with the power switched off) it was a fire hazard.  PSA told me it was normal, even though my original unit (before it failed) ran about 100 degrees cooler, and it pretty damn toasty itself.  They ultimately sent me a third unit which I sold on Audiogon before opening the box.

In case you were wondering, the max draw of my equipment was about 400-450 watts so I wasn't even close to the maxing out the P1000's circuits.

If your power is really bad go with a ExactPower EP/SP15 combo.  If your power is reasonably stable and clean to begin with, the BPT 3.5 Sig is the way to go.

Just to second Erics comments, I use a PP600 W/MW and it is great for front end equipment, but I can't run any amps except for small lower power consumptive units on it as there is no bass with higher current amps.

I've never had a problem with the 600 failing or getting too hot.

I tried a BPT unit after I bought the PP600 (ultra 2.5), and would not hesitate to buy one in the future for front end OR amps

I had the P300.  I t worked flawless for what it was.

It, too, worked for me on front end equipment, but I found the fan annoying (on all the time).  It was mostly helpful to imrpoving sound, but it caused ( to my ears) shrillness in my system.  I've heard some parts swaps improves it considerably, but I didn't go that route.

I sold it (and the Ultimate Outlet I had), bought a BPT (BP-2 with a few upgrades) and couldn't be happier with it.  Well, the only way I could be happier with it if it was for less than the $1400 I paid...but, you know THAT story
