Promitheus Audio DAC hum issues
« on: 9 Aug 2013, 10:03 pm »
Hey all.  Since the Promitheus Audio circle is closed i figured i would pass this information on here.  I recently got the PA DAC in (and yes the wait time is still several months if you're wondering) and suffered from the issue of hum with it others mentioned in the thread about it.  I tried all the usual things such as trying various outlets and even a tripp lite isolation transformer but the hum still remained.  Strangely the hum wouldnt be present right when powering the unit on but only after being on for a little while.  The hum i had didnt seem as bad as others seemed to be having in their units however as mine was more in the upper volume steps of my TVC.  Mostly not all that noticeable in my case but knowing it was there was bothersome none the less.

Anyhow i had an APC LE1200 Line-R 1200VA Automatic Voltage Regulator on hand that i wasnt using and wondered if the higher line voltage most americans receive these days was the culprit. I switched the unit to 110 volts, plugged in the dac and the hum has been entirely eliminated even with the TVC cranked to the max volume step. Dead Silence.

So anyways i hope this helps someone out there.  The APC unit i have is here on amazon  http://www.amazon.com/APC-LE1200-Automatic-Voltage-Regulator/dp/B00009RA60/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1376085165&sr=8-2&keywords=apc+power+conditioner

Yes, US power is approaching 125V.  Most of the forum member weren't born when it was 110V.
