Guys,

Looking for a freight company to ship a crate weighing 275 lbs that's reasonable. Any suggestions would be greatful and FedX ground quoted
$400ish if I drop off without lift gate.

I've had great luck with Pilot Frieght. They are a franchise so YMMV with respect to how your local agent treats you. I've shipped door-to-door two sets of Maggies 3.7s (one coming, the other going with good results. All in less than $275 and on a pallet to boot.

I had very good experiences a few years back with ABF Freight when I shipped some boxed/crated speakers.  They were:

good with shipping partial palette loads

very helpful/understanding working with a customer (me) not at all familiar with how the freight shipping industry works

had very reasonable (IMHO) rates

offered door to door curbside service (loading dock or not).


I would gladly do business with them again.

Well as long as FedEx doesn't throw your stuff on the ground and leave.   I had a tube amp delivered that way, of course FedEx covered it with the insurance since it was their fault ( neighbor saw them drop  it on my door step)

I've used Team Freight to ship 200lb speakers 5 or 6 times, and their prices and service was great.  I dropped off and picked up the box each time from their loading docks and was sure to mark fragile and no stacking clearly on the boxes, and had no problems with damage on any of the shipments.  The will palletize or you can on your own.

My contact was Brian at Teamit@aol.com when shipping from Philly, but they have people throughout the US.

Thanks for the leads, guys!  However, warning about Uship:  ufokillerz, you RECEIVED freight from Uship, but if you are the shipper, beware.  Uship is a broker.  I got a quote via Uship that was $435 for a pair of Acoustats.  The shipper linked in the eBay posting quoted $229 when I plugged in my zip code, BUT stated "no insurance available".  The only quote I received via Uship was the $435 figure.  The quoter is actually a company that takes RFQ's and shops them to several actual freight carriers, then supposedly forwards the lowest quote to you.  Think about it:  this is the second broker in the supply chain.  He has profit in the price quoted to me; Uship has profit in that price and of course the actual carrier has profit in the price.  I think the max realistic freight charge would be somewhere around $300.
Anyway, I think I'll use the cartons' dimensions and weights and get quotes from the carriers in this thread.

I wouldn't worry about how much profit is being made by whom, but rather if you're receiving a safe and reliable service and customer care at a price point that is reasonable to you.

uship shops them out to small companies that cannot normally afford to put up ads and advertise.

I received 4 speakers, shipping from california to new york city. each speaker 113lbs, think the total shipping was under 400 bucks, and was insured. This is residential delivery, into my garage. took 2 weeks, and they got here at 3:30AM !! lol

What showed up was a brand new pickup truck, towing a trailer.
