845 tube amplifiers
« on: 12 Feb 2003, 02:33 am »
Can I get some descriptions of the sound of 845 based tube amps?  I am thinking about driving the ribbons on my Maggie 3.6s with this type amp but, I have no experience with the various tube ampifiers.

I have heard good things about the bass control and extension of a good 845 design, such as the deHavilland.  It is one of the few single-tube amps that can supply enough power.  However, driving Maggies with it is another thing.  I understand that they are a hard load for any amp.  It's hard to believe that it will have the guts to be loud and have good bass control.

Anybody out there use tubes with Maggies?
