In spite of being broken up for a while now, the Civil Wars is releasing a new, self titled, album tomorrow.  I for one will rush out and buy it asap tomorrow!  From the samples I've heard they've taken a bit more of a radio friendly path vs. the more folky direction of their last album.  Below is a link to an NPR interview with 1/2 of the Civil Wars.  She talks about the tension while recording as well as the reason for their breakup.

The CW have said that if you want to know why they broke up, one must listen to this new album.

I certainly hope they get back together.

So...what do you guys think?

Audiophilia Nervosa wise, I'm a bit disappointed with the quality of the vocals in the recording.  The music is incredibly well recorded but the vocals are a bit behind the mix and Joy's voice is often far more prominently miked than John Paul's.  I guess Rick Rubin can't always hit a homerun....

Musically, I was worried about it being too radio friendly and fluffy but am not disappointed there.  Some really fine music there.

How does it compare to the first CD. I liked the first CD a lot, though they could get a little depressing at times.
