I just started looking in the backgrounds of movies and tv shows for audio equipment. It adds another dimension to watching them. A few weeks ago on a old Columbo movie mystery a central character had a turntable with a woodgrain veneer with at least 12 plastice white oval buttons(maybe 1977?). A show called Elementary has had alot of audio equipment in the background- most recently I noticed a beautiful vintage Marantz receiver in a suspects apartment, while I've seen a few shots of Watson's speakers too(approx 3 feet tall w/grills off, look like a newer model). I recently saw a new B&W bookshelf speaker on a fireplace mantel, though I cant recall the movie.

For A Clockwork Orange, try and find the actual X-rated version, not the R-rated one.
Anthony Burgess' wife was raped during WWII which is why that's such a powerful novel.

Yes, in Elementary Sherlock Holmes has all McIntosh electronics and not sure what his speakers are.

In the pilot for Suits, character Mike Ross' boss has what appears to be a high-end turntable (?) and a PrimaLuna (?) integrated amplifier in his office.

Hello,
Of course you should get the one how Kubrick meant it to be. Frank is living in the biggest porn producing country in the world ( correct me if i am wrong) so it is available at amazon in blu ray at$7.99. Soundwise and imagewise the blu is worth the extra dough. Also check out a jamiroquai clip with a lot of vintage loudspeakers in it. Greetigs, Edward

One of my favorite shows Psyche...the episode mimicking that old weird David Lynch TV series...IIRC one of the guys in the strange little town had a vinyl TT in the background.

Then-cutting edge soundtrack played on the huge modular Moog analog synthesizer by then-Walter now-Wendy Carlos.  (Nominate self for sentence with the most words preceded by "then-.")

Can you say, "Oscillator drift?"  Or, "Classic sound of EMT plate reverb?"

The TV show "House" always featured a SOTA turntable and a few Gibson electrics.
I have the Clockwork Orange soundtrack on vinyl, maybe I should dig it out and give it a spin.

JAG main character Harman Rab first played a nice Gibson occasionally, then IIRC the later was nice blonde jumbo Guild (actor Elliot used to be in a band before he acted).

Re. Gibson electrics: Les Paul said he knocked constantly on Gibson's door for ten years before they released his electric, telling deaf ears electric was the way of the future.  "No, Les, people don't like electric guitars, they want to hear only acoustic music."  Gibson, meet Pete Seeger...Pete Seger, meet Gibson (Seeger was part of the crowd that booed Dylan's first electric band, told everyone to boycott Bob, and said folk music was only acoustic).  Mr. open minded not so much that time!  I think he may have apologized 40 years later.

THAT is the classic sound of vintage late 60s-early 70s state of the art and dearly expensive ($3k in then-dollars, real money then) EMT plate reverb.  Two per studio (IIRC) at The Record Plant where I once worked.

2nd best sample is Joan Baez' voice on Diamonds and Rust.

Hi Frank111, I saw that Columbo episode too. That turntable triggered off a thick book falling down(like a body),and triggered off firecrackers to sound like gunfire. Boss Hog, from the Dukes of Hazzard co-starred, Bertie. That turntable was a ADC Accutrac 4000. You were right,1977! It retailed fro 500 bucks. I think it was the first commercially sold turntable to play select tracks automatically. Here's another one. If you watch an uncut version of Animal House, TV cuts out a lot, you will see in the room of professor ? played by Don Sutherland, a Dynaco Stereo 70. One more, there are ads for the Dean Martin roast DVD's. look closely and you will see a stack of MacIntosh components next to his fire pole he slides down complete with cigarette in mouth. Good eye Frank, I look for that stuff too.....Mark Korda.

Hello,
Sure was in the bedroom and it was a mitchell transcriptor turntable. Probably used because of its futuristic looks. But you will understand once you see the movie with the famous Ludwig Van. Come and buy this movie. greetings, Edward

High Fidelity with John Cusack. It's been years since I've seen it though.
