Photo Stream HELP!!!
« on: 24 Jul 2013, 05:10 pm »
HI guys, another new Mac user here, so new I cann't even get past the setup :(
Anyway, I just bought a new Mini last week, so I have been trying to get all my pictures and favorites off my Dell into the Cloud.

Well I got the favorites, they showed up on the Mac, but I just cann't get the pictures to show up.
I have all the latest updates for both the OS and Iphoto installed, but the photo stream link just will not show up on the Iphoto page. I have been trying for days, i have Googled everything, but no luck.

Do I Need a special APP  for the Iphoto ? I hope I donn't have to get the $75 Aperture one.

Any help would be appreciated, but please keep it simple :(

AB.

Copy all your photos from your dell to a CD or thumbdrive and then load them on your mac mini.

Keep in mind that photo stream only keeps the last 50 or so photos and isn't intended to be cloud storage, you will want to use flickr, adobe revel or the dozen other photo sites.

BTW: The reason your topic was moved here is because it wasn't related to audio.   I would note that it probably would have been better to move this to the "eye-fidelity" circle vs the IT circle.

Can you re-phrase the nature of your question / problem please.  Not sure I understand the steps you've taken.  "Off my Dell into the Cloud" - did you first import the photos into your Iphoto library on your mini? To use photo stream photos first have to originate in some apple hardware : whether a mac or idevice.  Don't think you can send it over the web from your Dell.

What do you mean by "can get the photos to show up" and "photo stream link will not show up on iphoto page"?  You mean there is no photo stream album category showing up in the sidebar?

I assume you're running the most recent version of Iphoto (11?) if your computer is new. To use photo stream make sure you have it activated : go to "system preferences" (the box w/ the gear photo in it), then chose "icloud" & make sure you have both boxes checked.  If the bottom one is grayed out, you have to go to itunes tool bar above, chose iphoto, preferences, the sharing & turn it on.  Working from recent memory here as I don't have the newest software (OS nor Iphoto) to do it on my mac, but just set it up recently for someone else.

Thanks for the response, like I said, I have all the latest upgrades, at least the App store telsl me that Iphoto 9.4.2 and 11 is already installed when I try to install them.  However I really do not think they are, but I do not know why its telling me they are.

The Iphoto screen looks very basic, with nothing about Photo Stream. I have clicked on everything and turned on everything. I think it needs a Iphoto reload, maybe i will take it back to Best Buy.

What I find so amazing, is that this Icloud Apple product, installed and ran so easy on my Dell with Windows 7, but is such a PITA on a brand new Apple Mini.

Very unusual.  Honestly if it's not too far away, I'd take it the "genius bar" of an Apple Store : they'll set you straight very quickly.  Obviously it's better to make an appointment, but mid day / mid week you can often walk in and meet with someone within 15 minutes.  I did recently for an iphone issue for a unit that wasn't even bought in the US.

You can right click on the application ikon and delete it.   If this is a new mac you will have to reload iPhoto from the provided thumbdrive/CD or if you purchased it from the app store then you can just re-install it.   If you have neither then you will have to purchase it (only if you picked up a used Mac)  I believe you should have version 9.4.3  (not 9.4.2).   You can also review the steps here to enable photo stream http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2710?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US  and you probably could get more help from the Apple discussion forums vs this one.     Also keep in mind that you might have to enter your apple id in the app store and iPhoto separately, but all really depends on how you configured the accounts.
