Help with Sony PSX600
« on: 24 Jul 2013, 06:14 am »
Hi Folks,

picked up a PSX600 on the bay...

unfortunately it appears to be DOA... does not power up.  :(

It is a 110/120V unit from north america, so I am feeding it via a transformer - so it receives its own special diet rather than our local 240V.

Taking a multimeter to it, power goes from trannie to unit, then off to power switch, finally to the PSU transformer - so far so good.

But out the back of the PSU trannie I should be seeing +/-30V (I think! - based on the Vinylengine downloaded service manual)... and I am seeing nothing!

I can see no obvious location for a fuse - find it strange that there is no fuse...

Am I missing something?

Help would be very much appreciated!

thanks

David

David,
If there is supposed to be a fuse, wouldn't it be in the schematic?

Sounds like the transformer is fried.  Maybe someone plugged it into 240V.  Later on I can call my tech and ask him if there's anything else to look for, and what are the chances that it might have other problems if the transformer is gone.  Too bad.

That's what I think too, but I am hoping someone will point out something I missed!

And your step down transformer (240 to 120) puts out 120 volts on the hot and zero volts on the neutral.......

Just askin' the stupid question.

When measured with a DMM it reads 112V , not sure how to tell which is active and neutral... And the power plug is 2 prong with no differentiation...

Hey David,

I lurk here more than I post, good to see you here too...... :)

Check out the schematic on page 18 / 30 of the service manual.

Look at the BSL motor drive board, US CAN Model, @ COOD [J, 3.5], it's hard to see, however, it appears that there are 2 fuses hidden by the traces on the circuit board, one each on the 30V + / - traces.

Good luck, hopefully you'll get this baby working and report here and ehhh hemmmm the other site too...... and of course the cartridge you've decided to install..... :thumb:

Hi Fred,

thanks for the suggestion - but it seems that those fuses are only present on the UK/Europe and multivoltage versions not on the US/Canadian version...

At present I have ordered a Transformer (240V - so I won't have to use a step down), as I have found there to be no output from the current onboard TF.... (which is a pretty basic problem!)

I am hoping that once I have a good TF there everything else will be OK - if not then this will become quite an expensive exercise... cost of shipping the parts to Aus is the same as the cost of the parts themselves!

bye for now

David
