Ellis Audio 1801b - SOLD
« on: 23 Jul 2013, 04:19 am »
I have a pair of Walnut 1801bs for sale.  The cabinets were built by Darren Thomas and look great.  They have been in storage for several years since I went to a multi-channel system and sadly need to sell them.  They are in good condition except for a couple small dings in the finish (can email pics) that I imagine could be repaired but I don't have the skill and they were small enough it didn't bother me.

No original boxes as there weren't any, but I'll package them well and cover shipping via FedEx.  I can accept paypal without a fee for a bank transfer or credit card / e-check at +3%.  Asking $875.

I wasn't sure how to upload a picture when I first posted, but added a pic to the original post.  One of the mentioned dings is the small dot above the left speaker driver screw at 1:00.  I can email the other one if you send me a PM which is on the top back corner of the same speaker.

Price too high?  Any interest at $825 delivered?

I wish I needed speakers (...or could talk the CEO into letting me buy these ).  The 1801B's topped our Comparo GTG in A/B tests with 6 other ID standmount speakers under $2000.  They have a really smooth presentation with a flat F/R.  Great design.

Good luck with the sale, OBF.

Thanks Mudslide.  I held on to them for years as I hate to sell them and the 7.1 set of Emotiva ref speakers I'm using are definitely a step down, but no reason for them to collect dust in the garage forever!

Hi,

This is a good price for them and Darren Thomas had quite a reputation for his woodwork skills (I never see him post anymore on AC).  Dennis Murphy did the original xover design and then Dave Ellis did further refinements.  Jim Salk also builds this speaker which sells for $1999US.

I read many threads from new comers wanting a recommendation for a speaker who are considering commercial speakers.  You can't do any better than these speakers for the price.

Cheers Rod

SOLD.  Thanks Rocket -- I agree with your comments and will probably regret it some day!

Hi,

I hope you don't regretting selling the speakers.  I have a pair of nuforce s9's being purely for HT but I can't sell them for the price that I would probably get.

Anyway at least they are going to a good home.

Cheers Rod
