Pulled this out of the closet (Pioneer SA-6700) to make the little Pioneer 22's bookshelves sing.

Gotta love those meters!

Doc, I would bring it up on a variac initially.  Then, I would get all the electrolytic caps replaced, diodes, rectifier, bias pots, and see how she sounds.

Indeed!  The wood chassis is something I've always liked to offset that brushed aluminum face.

OKie dokie Lokie, you got our attention. Exactly, what is it and the speakers beside it? Looks like something out of one of the old sci-fi flicks from the 50's.

Mostly what you are seeing there is Western Electric Theater gear from the 40's (maybe 30's??), so, you weren't far off.

The amps go for around $30k a piece these days but, sad to say, most of them are residing in Japan.

You are correct. Excellent advice. Although way beyond my ability. However, I do plan to replace the caps.

I have the SA-7700 sitting in a box in my garage. Do your meters still work? My meters died a long time ago.

One of the audio repairs guys I know claimed that by putting extra or thicker wiring on the power switch you'll get more bass.

Yes, meters still work. Bought this for my Dad with the matching tuner from a neighbor about 25 years ago for a system I set up in his new home. Price paid $50. Both still look brand new. Have not tried any mods. Have them hooked to the little Pioneer 22 bookshelves in a secondary system. Still make satisfying music.

Is yours still there???

Thank you.  It really sounds good after restoration.  If you look close, you can see the new filter caps.

Freo.  Getting a whole lot of listening pleasure with a Dynaco ST35 running thru an Eico HF85 pre ending up with 70s Celestion 66s.  An ole AR turntable and a Pioneer PD75 for cds=very euphonic listening.  I've had BAT, Wilson, BW, AR, CJ--but the small trio jazz I like just sounds best with the old stuff.

Gotta love those 6BQ5/EL84 amps.  That is a really good audio tube.

Been listening to a HK 430 at work through Boston A 60s. Been loving it! Tapping toes instead of listening for what it is doing.

Buried in my closet(s):

1) Sansui 8080dB, 771,
2) Pioneer SX-838, 636,
3) Harman Kardon 430, 580i,
4) Kenwood KR-6030,
5) Technics SA-400.

I must not be picky, the only one that's not up to snuff is the Technics.

Was banned from there, didn't pay my $25 so that I could call someone an "asswad." 8)

But, back on topic, an SX-1250 is one of my main components. I was on a tear the first couple months I got into this hobby and in a matter of six months found, in order, Onkyo TX-8500, Sansui 9090DB, and Pioneer SX-1250. Also got a Yamaha CR-1020 and ended up with some JBL L-112s as  part of the deal. They all sound great with their own characteristics. If I ever find more space, I'd like to try some separates from the era.

I have to agree with everyone about the vintage equipment. Trying to reduce my equipment footprint, I sold a couple of items and sent a tube amp off to be repaired. Had an old Yamaha 840 receiver that needed the panel lights replaced so I have not used it in a long time. Put it in my system and wow! Sounds better than I thought it did 20 years ago.

I has a few controls that need cleaning plus I'm sure some cap upgrades. After all, its probably 30 years old or so. A few of you mentioned that you had your equipment upgraded with new caps and service. I know a couple of good tube guys, but not any good solid state vintage repair places. Anyone have any suggestions?

Where are you located?  That would help.
