Newbie to the Circle and OB's
« on: 13 Jul 2013, 02:06 pm »
Hi, just thought I would introduce myself. I have spent far too much money on hifi and have come to the conclusion that "simple is best".
With this in mind I ended up here with my first OB based on a Visaton B200.

The size of them is not by design but more to do with the fact that they are the off cuts from my shed roof.  :D

This helps though as after the drivers have been given 200 hours or so, I may consider adding a bass driver or cutting down the baffle to see how it will effect the sound.

I notice that the Eminence 15" units are held in high regard and not much mention of the Visaton BGS40.

Is this purely to do with geographical reasons as I can't find anywhere in the UK that does the 15A though they seem to be in abundance in the USA.

Ideally I would rather keep the single driver only route but at the moment the bass seems slightly light but not a lot.

Thanks for the link. I am a bit confused, is there a difference between a 15 and a 15a?

Hi! The main difference between Eminence 15:s that concerns open baffle builders is the Qts value, which is suitably high on the alpha 15. That's why it is popular here.
Beta, gamma and delta models have lower Qts values, so they will need more compensation, by equalising or filtering, to not drop off too early (too lean bass).
Dunno if this was my first post - in that case, hi! I have been coming here now and then for a year or two, but haven't had anything to post about really. Want to build two pairs of OBs for the house, but there is always something else that happens...
