Hi guys,

Yesterday evening, I experienced my first SP-3 crash. To be more precise, it was the DSP board that crashed. I was watching Hotel Transylvania on Blu-Ray 3D and suddenly, the sound muted. The SP-3 didn't react to IR remote signals. The controls on the SP-3 didn't work either. When I was about to do a hard reset (unplug the SP-3), I briefly saw a message on the display, stating that the DSP board had crashed.

Anyone experienced the same thing? I had my JVC projectors locking up before but never a pre/pro, neither the Onkyo that the SP-3 replaced, nor the SP-2 PRO I owned before the Onkyo, nor the SP1.7 PRO that I am currently using in my bedroom...

i don't have a SP3 but it is indeed too bad that this happened to you. the DSP is covered by the 5 year warranty, i guess ?!? what if it crashes again after the warranty is over? do you know how much a new DSP board is?

If you haven't had a Bryston processor lockup before, then you surely mustn't have a satellite receiver set top box plugged into it, because if you did, it would be a weekly occurrence.

The SP2 isn't robust in the face of Dolby signal errors. Sat and BluRay receivers output a lot of crap, and the Bryston processor has trouble simply ignoring it and carrying on. It likes to lockup instead.

At least that's my experience. I suspect the SP3 is much the same.

I have an early unit and have not had a crash yet.  I have an Oppo bluray, PS3, Apple tv and an expressvu box plugged into the HDMI ports.

I have to agree the satellite receiver box is by far the worst source.  It puts out constant DD errors and dropouts.
