http://amps.abraxasaudio.net/For sale is one custom KT88 SET/SEP integrated amplifier. I had Jef make this amp for me a couple of years ago. My lifestyle has changed and I just can't haul this amp around the world with me. I'm sad to see it go. It's already spent too much time in storage.
Originally I asked Jef to build me an RH88 but he had some other ideas that sounded better he said. I gave him room to work and the result is an amp which he says is his favorite SE amp(he favors PP). I have to agree. The one characteristic that really grabs me about this amp is the startling dynamics it has. You can be listening to a track that you know and be thinking, "I need to turn this up" and then BAM, you will be stunned by a dynamic passage. This amp also puts to bed the myth that SET amps don't have bass. Very strong and tight bass here and also very tight control of the speaker cones. The amp is not super triode warm, it leans more towards neutral. Of course, it is very smooth and revealing. Very detailed. I've found that most triode amps are slow and not very nice for listening to rock/pop/etc but this is not the case with this amp, it is very fast.
Amp is switchable between SET(triode) and SEP(pentode) and there is a noticeable but not stark difference between the two modes. Triode is warmer and more lush, Pentode is more neutral. Also of note is that output is switchable to headphone jack. Custom wound One Electron output transformers for 8 ohm output. Included are two Genalex Gold Lion KT88 power tubes, two RCA EF184 driver tubes and one Sylvania labelled RCA 5U4GB.
Power is 3.5 Watts @ 8 ohms SET and 7 watts @ 8 ohms SEP
