black gates upgrade
« on: 20 Jul 2004, 04:38 am »
I'm looking for your suggestions.
I was reading in the previous posts about upgrading electrolitics C11, C3, C4 and C13 to Black Gate Standard or K.  Is it a worthwhile upgrade and is Black gate 50V OK to replace 63V stock caps?  I have to take my AKSA 100N apart anyways to fix it after the output was shorted out.
Thanks gents

Just picked this up on AA "General".  Is Black Gate ceasing production or is this just a rumour?    Go see at:

Andy,

My understanding from Lewis Muratore who has been using the BG for about ten years is that this rumor does the rounds every summer in the Northern hemisphere, often precipitated by a letter to strategic customers alerting them of the possibility.

This letter provokes a rash of sales, which seems to postpone the deadline, and it's been happening for long enough to become quite cynical about it.........

In any event, consider this:  BG has been going from strength to strength over the last couple of years, and the new coupling series, the NX, is a relative newcomer on the scene.  Why would they develop new, popular products, only to withdraw them?  There has to be a R&D cost to recoup!

Cheers,

Hugh

Thanks, Hugh,

It depressed me to think that they might stop doing business ... I knew that many audiophiles around the world *must* be buying their products but is that community big enough to keep a major corporation alive?  I thought maybe the big guys are all going to some other brand and Mr. BG was feeling the pinch!

Andy

PS: Did I hear that you are on your deathbed and Aspen is soon to stop ... hell, better place my order for a second GK-1 real quick!!
