Tiffany power conditioner

Dear GAS gentry,

It lived (or putrefied) at Best Sound for several years. It was a Tiffany power conditioner. They were made in 1989 only, and believe me, they were junk. Take the top off, and you saw an apology of an audio-isolation transformer that looked like Chinese army-surplus junk. It may have isolated something, but in truth it leaked so much EMI it would set off an Elfix polarity tester eight feet away and cause problems in any adjacent piece of equipment that was even six feet away. It didn't isolate; it contaminated. But it did have a big transformer inside, and it lifted all the grounds. (Therefore, illegal to sell in St. Louis County, for those who don't know.) But it had one redeeming merit--a gorgeous chassis. I wanted it for the chassis so I could gut it and put something else in it. But Wolfie wanted several hundred for it (about $350, if I recall), and I wasn't going to pay that for the chassis. But then Paul Else incurred Wolfie's ire by impulsively selling it to someone for $50. (Which I would have given for it.) But Paul couldn't remember who it was he sold it to, Tim Simpson who worked there at the time didn't know, and so ... it had gone out into audio-land with no mission but that of acutely disappointing someone. Well, now my audio projects are at a point where I could use such a chassis, and I'd like to know if anyone out there is sullenly owning a Tiffany power conditioner they wish they hadn't bought. If so, I'll pay you what you gave for it, and maybe throw in a chocolate comestible (or some such) in the bargain. If you have it, or know of it, then please phone me at: (314) 966-2167. But if you threw it into a landfill, I won't go into mourning.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanking you in advance,

Francis Baumli

Francis:
Send me am email about what you would like to accomplish with the chassis and I can probably help.

If memory serves me well, it was a gorgeous brushed aluminum case with a huge transformer inside. I took it home once to see what it would do in my system and have to agree with Francis. The beautiful chassis was certainly a case of polishing a turd.
