 Perhaps my term "placeholder" is incorrect. Awhile back there was a post asking about how the bda1 would effect the bcd1'16/44  material.and therefore overall sound. The response was that the 24 bit dacs of the bda1 would insert 8 additional bits (but of course with no additional data). I guess this has a smoothing effect on the wave form. With the bcd2 having 32 bit chips I wondered if they insert 16 bits( "placeholders" ?) :o
