I Know it's Late Notice But...
« on: 29 Jun 2013, 03:06 am »
...if any GAS locals are looking to do something different, Saturday is Pacific Days. Basically they shut down, historic downtown Pacific and have a huge car show. along with that there are live bands, BBQ, funnel cakes, shaved ice, Biergartens and you finish the day up with fireworks after sunset.

Here's a couple pics from a couple years a ago to whet your appetite.

It's actually a pretty fun time. It's very family friendly with some games for the kiddos and tons of cool cars on display.

Laura and I will be downtown with the TBird. We'll be showing in the Stock 1960 to 1972 Class. Not quite sure if we'll be grouped together by class but I would assume we would. If not, just look for this

Sounds like Blackmore is going to make it out and BISL mentioned bringing Mrs BISL and the kids over for the fireworks show.

Anyway, if you aren't doing anything, it's going to be beautiful out tomorrow. High in the upper 70s. Come on out. As opposed to turning right to come to our house when you get off 44, make a left and go under 44 and make another left. Take old 66 down to Hwy O (the second stop light) and look right. That's the heart of downtown Pacific.

If you come out, give me a buzz on my cell and I'll let you know where we're parked  :thumb:

Sounds like a possibility Scott ... thanks for posting, we've gone in years past and it's always a good time.

Hey Ryan,

You ought to bring one of your RX7s. Its only $10 to display and $15 to be judged. They've got a class you'd fit in too.

Hope to see you there :thumb:

Hey BISL,

You :whip: missed :whip: a :whip: great :whip: show!  Scott's "BURD" looked great and lots of people had their pictures taken with it.  The tonneau cover that makes it look like a two-seater just sets that car apart from the others.  We sat next to the bar so we got in a lot of people watching.  Even saw one girl in her best "pin-up girl" outfit.  There was something for every car guy and gal.  Herbie the Love Bug to a complete ballstothewalls Mustang dragster that made your sphincter tighten up just walking by.  Scott said it sounded even better than it looked.  Do you guys know how many of these cars Scott has owned over his driving life?  Seems like every other muscle car Scott would say, "I had one of those in blue.  Great car until I drove two rods out the pan and two out the side of the block."  Ask Scott about the Shag wagon sometime.  You'll laugh.

Anyway, I had a great time, got sunburned, left before the rains came in and got to see a ton of great looking cars and bikes.

P.S. BISL, I would have gone to your daughter's dance recital too.  Sorry about the whips.......love ya'.......don't hurt me!!!!

 It's all  good Mark, no worries.
Got home from Lafayette High School at 9:45 last night.
There were 28 performances, each one about three to four minutes long.
To say I was "restless" is an understatement.

Anybody get pics of the festivities last night?
(I shot 124 pictures of my daughter during her three minute performance).  :duh:

Hiya Bob,

I didn't take many pics this go round since we were showing. We mostly spent our time tending the Bird and talking all the other car guys there.

Here's a few phone pics (read = crappy quality) that I took.

Here's the Bird on her perch. We entered in the Stock 1960 - 1972 class and had some damned stiff competition. There were seriously nice vehicles there in all the classes. We were lucky enough to take Third in our class. After she comes back from the interior shop in a week or so, we should place a little better.

For you gearheads out there, here is a buddies 1970 1/2 Camaro SS. It's sporting a MONSTER 540 cu in Mitchell motor that cranks out 800HP. Notice, she's naturally aspirated, no blower, no NOS, no supercharger. Jim took Second in the Muscle Car class.

When it comes to cars, I love quirky. I this case it's a 1958 Buick Invitica Rat Rod. I think this is awesome. Rat Rods are just cool.

Mark mentioned the Shaggin' Wagon. I literally had this exact van back in the day. Mine was baby blue with blue and green shag carpet inside. I told the owner that my oldest was conceived in the back of mine. He just laughed.

Right around 3:00 the skies opened up. We hot-shotted the Bird back home and got her safely tucked back in the garage. A little later we made it back up there but this time we took the Truck. It wasn't as big a hit as the Bird but there were plenty of truck guys that stopped and talked.

Oh, we're got a feature article that is going to be written about the Bird and our trip to bring her back.

As I was collecting our trophy, the editor of the Washington Missourian became smitten with the Bird at the show. We started talking and they asked if there was a story about the car (nearly every vintage car has some sort of interesting story). They loved it and asked if they could do a feature that will get published in the next few weeks. Of course, we said sure!

Anyway, it was a fun day. Tons of cool cars. lots of interesting people watching. Great fun....AND YOU MISSED IT ALL

Congrats on the 3rd place. That's a nice trophy for you, right out of the gate.

Wish I could have come, but it wasn't in the cards.  We have family coming for the next few days, so got to spend the entire day cleaning

Congrats on placing!  I've been to Pacific Days a few times and know you had some tough competition.

That Rat Rod though, not so sure about that monstrosity
