I've heard the new Rega P9 with a Benz Micro cartridge on it and it was just awesome!!!  To my ears and listening preferences (e.g., mostly rock), it bettered four other tables with the same cartridge (VPI Aries, Linn LP 12, Clearaudio Champion 2, and an SME Model 10 (though this was really close and probably a better table overall).  I have never heard such a quick sounding, focused, and PRATTY turntable.  It's easily the most exciting source  component I've ever heard.  I plan to buy one in the future.

Thanks Michael. If you were impressed with the new P9, and considering that we both are P25 /Dynavector 20XH users, I need to move in that direction also. It would be nice to know if the new P7 was almost as good.

Hiya,

The P7 is the little brother to the P9.  The P7 is just awesome.  Both have the "missile cone" ceramic oxide platter and both use the metal sub platter and two belts.

Two Words

IT SMOKES!

Two more words

GET ONE.

One other thing, claud.  B-Diddy is the owner of Whetstone audio in TX, which is the ONLY Rega dealer I can think of that has all Rega TT's on display, so his words on the P7 carry more weight than anyone else I can think of.  He can do A-B ing to his hearts content.

Claud,
OOH ... do I get to live vicariously through another upgrade?  Hey, I'll even bring the new vinyl.  And call me before you list the P25

Inscrut,
My dealer has a tradein deal. He will give me $900 for my P25 without the mods( Heavyweight and Ringmat) . I will keep the Ringmat, but sell it with cart and heavyweight . I will call you if I decide to make a move. It will not be any time soon, like this year. I'm too broke to buy anything but software (CDs and some vinyl). Thank God I bought a lot of NOS 6SN7/VT-231 tubes before reality set in.

Claud,
Fair enough.  I have my own reality show to deal with too, replete with violins and clowns

If the P7 or P9 smokes your rig, I've gotta hear them.  At that point I'm not sure I'd mess with CD's anymore.

Hey, are you going down to Charlotte on the 22nd?  I think I'm gonna try to make it.

I would like to go to Charlotte on the 22nd. Is that one the "crawl" or a "flea market" ? Should we ask Carlman if he wants to go with us old farts?
I will be moving son to school ( Campbell) on 21st. That's the only thing that could put a crimp in my plans.
My dealer says that P7 is almost as good as new P9, but I would like more input/experienced opinions . It isn't like I can audition in my home. I also want to only upgrade this component this last time.

I think it's the crawl.  Yeah, we should post under NC circle and see who might want to tag along.

Yes, Please do post some info regarding the "22nd".  I'm near Charlotte and have no idea what's going on (I don't get out much  :| ).

Thanks, Henry

I have Emailed the Prez of the Carolina Audio Society to make sure of the date and meeting agenda. This is their meeting, and although I am a member, and interested non member audiophiles are usually welcome, I think it would be a good idea to check first.

Is it possible for you to listen to both at your dealer?  I'd like to hear the results.

My dealer is not in NC. He is several hundred miles away. I will not get more specific since Rega no longer allows mailorder sales.  This dealer looked after me when there was no local dealer. Only big city dealers allow tradeins, and we ain't a big city state yet.

September 19th is the Audio crawl. The 22nd is an open house --bring spouse or sig otr and a covered dish. I think I'll pass. This gives us AC guys more time to prepare for the crawl.

I'm going to be in Asheville until Saturday, so I'm not sure I'll want to turn around and scoot back out the 22nd either if it's not the crawl.  I'll be joining at the next meeting I attend, and I would imagine Danny would be interested in prospective new members from here, as long as the total numbers are manageable - don't you?

So the anticipated consensus is that even the P7 is going to be a significant improvement over the P25?  Mostly attributed to the new arm?

Well, it's a significant improvement over the P25 for many more "theoretical" reasons than a better arm (I haven't heard it, but trust those that have and say it is way better).
1)Better bearing and subplatter
2) Better arm
3) Lighter, quiker dissipating plinth
4) Power supply for much better motor regulation.
5) Ceramic oxide platter (like P9's) with circle cutouts for a flywheel effect.

Like all Rega's, the P7 needs a good platform to sound good- think light and quick dissipating (Ikea Lack, Rega TT wall shelf, or Neuance shelf).
