Hi Everyone,

I have to say that I am really pleased to announce that on August 3rd at HiFi Lounge we will be holding a PMC Fact.12 launch event in conjunction with PMC Speakers and with a lot of help from Bryston who's electronics we will obviously be using to drive the Fact.12's, I guess this is like PMC and Bryston Owners Club Meetup 2 :)

Tom Baron, the UK representative for PMC and Bryston, who many of you will know, will be here holding the demonstrations of the Fact.12’s all day in our upstairs demo room which will be driven by a pair of Bryston 7B SST2's and using the Bryston SP3 processor, BDA-2 DAC and BDP-2 Media Player. We will also be running the Fact.8’s in our downstairs demo room driven by the new Bryston B135 SST2 integrated amplifier and hopefully Oliver Thomas, the lead designer on the Fact.12 project will be popping in to answer any questions.

I have heard the new Fact.12’s on 2 occasions now and they really are quite spectacular, I can’t wait to get them in at HiFi Lounge and hold this open day to give other music enthusiasts the opportunity to experience these stunning speakers first hand, you can read my initial thoughts when I first heard them at the Munich High End show last month here -

http://hifilounge.tumblr.com/tagged/PMC-Speakers

We are big fans of the Fact.8 at HiFi Lounge but the new Fact.12 really does move things on significantly, especially bearing in mind its cabinet size which is only slightly bigger that the Fact.8’s. What you get is a level of performance that can rival the much bigger IB2i’s in a cabinet that is a lot more living room friendly, when you hear the Fact.12’s it really does take some believing that such a big sound can come from such a svelte cabinet but more importantly that it just sounds so natural and musical.

The Fact.12 is a total redesign from the Fact.8 with only the tweeter remaining the same, the main addition is the bespoke mid range cone which is based on the world famous PMC 75 mid range, found in the IB2i, MB2i and BB5i speakers, which is considered by many to be the finest mid cone available, it may be slightly smaller than the PMC 75 but when I was listening to the Fact.12’s the tonal richness and clarity that I am so used to with the MB2 SE’s with their PMC 75 mid sounded just as good, I feel that this is the first time that a mid range of this quality has been put into a domestic speaker rather than the professional ranges where you would usually find them.

As I have said before it is the dedicated bass cones and the overall depths that these speakers can go down to that really shocked me, but in a very controlled and fast Fact way, along with the new mid cone it really is one amazing combination. Another thing worth mentioning is the bass and treble controls on the rear of the speaker, so now you can give the overall sound a little bass lift or reduction and the same with the treble to help fine tune the speaker, it is only a subtle change but can make a noticeable difference and is invaluable for helping tune the fact.12 to a possibly difficult room or giving an overall sound that you prefer. When we were demoed this at the recent Fact.12 dealer day I was amazed how when the bass was put onto its lower setting how it cleaned the mid range up and portrayed it into the room further, extremely impressive and as PMC have stated there is no correct setting as they are all correct.

Anyway I will shut up now as I could go on for hours, I can honestly say though that I don’t think there has ever been a speaker that performs at the level of the Fact.12 with such a small cabinet, although admittedly I have yet to hear The Model T range  it has certainly been a long time since I have been this excited by a new speaker so please feel free to come along to HiFi lounge from 9am onwards on August 3rd to experience the new PMC Fact.12, I can guarantee you have never experienced anything like it before.

Here are a couple of comments from Miles and Peter from PMC -

Miles Roberts, PMC’s managing director, praises the fact.12 design team, saying, “Oliver and his team have done a superb job of producing a loudspeaker that is worthy of its position at the top of the fact range. Its performance is such that it can justifiably be compared to our world famous studio monitors.” He continues, “The new 50mm midrange unit is a masterpiece of engineering which has a remarkable performance, very close to that of the PMC75 and is sure to make the fact.12 a loudspeaker that will be in demand for many years to come. We look forward to sharing it with music aficionados from across the world when we unveil it in Munich in May.”

Peter Thomas, PMC’s founder and chief designer, says, “We are lucky to be involved at every stage of the recording process in major studios around the world. This gives us first-hand knowledge of the creative process and the detail and passion of the actual performance. The objective for the design of the new fact.12 was to increase resolution and detail to a higher standard while maintaining our commitment to dynamics and accuracy. Our goal is, as always, to deliver that performance in the home as it was originally captured in the studio.”

The Fact.12 is such a special product for PMC that it also marks 12 new firsts for them as a company, please see below -

Twelve fact.12 firsts

1.   The first three way fact model
2.   The first time a speaker company has worked with the National Physical Laboratory
3.   The first use of the new 50mm midrange dome drive unit
4.   The first use by PMC of a hollow pole piece in a mid-range dome drive unit
5.   The first use of the new 140mm bass drive units
6.   The first time PMC has engineered a bass unit with a ‘power bulge’ for extended excursion
7.   The first use by PMC of coated alloy cones for low frequency reproduction
8.   The first use of a double sided crossover in a PMC speaker
9.   The first passive speaker to have a genuine bass lift user option
10. The first twin vent Advanced Transmission Line
11. The first design process led by Oliver Thomas
12. The first speaker from PMC to feature the new white silk finish[/li][/list]

Ok I really am going to shut up now, hope to see some of you on August 3rd for what will certainly be a fun day :-)

Cheers, Paul.

At this rate you're car will be able to find its own way, you're not far off from being my most frequent visitor which is saying something considering the distance involved.

Saying that when it comes to Bryston and PMC then every mile is a worth travelling

Hi everyone,

For our FACT.12 event next month this glorious weather that we are having in the UK at the moment has inspired me to throw a BBQ in the gardens round the back of HiFi lounge, I have a fellow PMC owner and friend lined up to do the cooking so if you fancy a burger or hot dog, as well as hearing the Fact.12’s please feel free to pop in, Personally I couldn’t think of anything better, PMC, Bryston and a BBQ :-)

I guess That will guarantee to make it rain now, better pop out and get a Gazebo just in case, fingers crossed though that this amazing weather will continue, hopefully see you at HiFi lounge on August 3rd.

Here is a picture of the gardens on a sunny day, lets hope we can re-create that and give people a chance to mingle outside, have a drink and something to eat and chat all things HiFi.

Alpha10

I will be there, as you saying playing with Bryston/PMC whilst eating BBQ in the sun, what could be better?

Good man Alpha, checking the weather for forecast it looks like this weather is going to last :thumb:

My demo Fact.12's are due in today so I will post some pics once here, all very exciting :)

The Wait is Over (almost)

Well here we go, the Fact.12's are in the building :thumb:

The trouble is that I have now got to go out to do a quote for a job so it looks like I won't get to hear them till tomorrow :duh:

I have to say that they weight a tonne though, not the easiest box's to get up the stairs that's for sure but they are there ready for action now, roll on tomorrow morning, obviously it goes without saying that pictures and thoughts will follow shortly :)

Hi Diamond Dog,

Got them running at the moment, they sound soooo good, that instantly recognisable 'Fact' sound but with that beautiful mid range and oodles of bass weight, you are going to love them, which finish did you go for?

Here are a couple of pics, there are more here of the Fact.12 Un-Boxing, don't get too excited D.D   - http://hifilounge.tumblr.com/post/55874194884/pmc-fact-12s-are-in-the-building

Little and large.

PMC 75 v PMC 50 Midrange.

Fact.8 v Fact.12.

Sounds exactly like what I expected, Vipers - can hardly wait! If reports are true in terms of the sound which Peter and Oliver have managed to coax out of a cabinet marginally bigger than the Fact.8, then they are truly Lords of Space and Time.  :thumb:
I pre-ordered mine around the same time you did but they've got a long way to travel so here's hoping they'll be here soon. I hear the first production run is already sold - an achievement, given the price point and lack of info about these. We PMC fans are a trusting bunch!

Mine are Tiger Ebony, same as my Fact.8's. Maybe my wife won't notice.....

Thanks for the pix!

The Stereophile August 2013 Industry Update section mentions the fact.12. Looks like a winner.

Hi mr Dog,

Looking forward to your thoughts on the Fact 12's.
Long time Fact8 lover, if I remember correctly.
Neat trick just switching them over night.
What amp(s) will you be running them on?

Hi mr bob,

Long time Fact.8 lover. Your memory serves you well.
While my wife was crazy enough to hitch up with me, I seriously doubt she's crazy enough to fall for the midnight switcheroo... :D
I'll be running them with 7BSST2's - should be up to the job. I will PM you and anyone else who's curious about the Fact.12's with my thoughts if you like. Just drop me a line.
And on that note....

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I would take a rest from setting up for tomorrow’s PMC Fact Open day and give a few more details what the day will entail.

Basically we have the Fact.8’s and Fact.3’s set-up in our downstairs demo room hooked up to the B135 SST2 along with the BDP-1 and BDA-1, so if anyone wants to compare both speakers we can easily accommodate that.

I have been running the Fact.12’s in all week so now they have loosened up a little and are sounding amazing, we will have them hooked up to the SP3 processor, 7B SST2 Mono's and BDP-2/BDA-2, we will also have Rega’s RP8 with Dynavector XX2 running for anyone who wants to try some vinyl. Olly Thomas, the lead designer on the Fact.12’s, will hopefully be popping in to answer any questions and all being well, Tom Barron, the PMC and Bryston UK Representative will be running a powerpoint presentation about the development of the Fact.12’s, I saw this at the Fact.12 dealer launch and it is really interesting so hopefully we can get it working.

I have just checked the weather and it is looking pretty good, maybe the odd shower around in the afternoon, so the BBQ should be good to go, I hope so anyway as Wendy came home last night with a car full of burgers, sausages, rolls and sauces so we need a dry day otherwise I’ll be eating BBQ food till Christmas.

We’ll be open from 9am tomorrow morning and finish up when everyone has had enough, knowing how good the Fact.12’s are I can see it being a bit of a late one.

Hope to see some of you tomorrow,

Regards,

Paul.

Thanks James :)

I have just had my first real chance to sit down and listen to the Fact.12's, I thought I'd better give them a proper listen before everyone turns up, all I can say is they are shockingly good, as expected, I tried putting the bass back to the neutral setting but it is too much for my demo room so I had to knock it down a notch, that is a great tool as it makes all the difference and really cleaned the mid range up.

I played through all my favourite demo tracks that I know extremely well on my MB's and to be honest the MB's and 12's are not a million miles apart, I would say that the MB's have more overall weight and drama in the bass but the Fact.12's have more impact and start and stop quicker, very tight, punchy and clean bass, but the mid range seems very close on both the MB's and 12's to be honest. When you compare the sizes of both it is quite amazing how close the performance is, quite an achievement.

I still think they are a little tight but I would imagine after a hard pounding tomorrow they will be sounding even sweeter :)

Well it’s 9.00pm and I think we are finally ready for our PMC Fact.12 Event tomorrow, we have just finished sorting the gardens out and the Gazebo is up so nothing is going to stop us now :-)

No one ever told me that being a HiFi Shop owner would entail such long hours, all in the name of having fun though and that is what really matters, hope to see everyone tomorrow.

As ever here are a couple of pictures of the gardens waiting for tomorrow’s action -
