A real cheapo universal remote

I got a universal remote yesterday (at WallyWorld of all places) that actually runs a high percentage of my stuff.  It's a "One For All" 8 component model with a very large code library, learning ability & backlighting for every single key.  And the legend is actually imprinted on the keys instead of the remote body, so you can actually read the label in the dark!  And it only cost $20.

I bought it for the system in my bedroom, as I was really tired of wrangling five remotes.  It controls every item I have, and I even taught one key to turn my window air conditioner on & off!  :o   Now, if it could only fetch me a beer!

Once I got to looking at the code library I realized it could probably run 85% of my main rig, too.  It would be nice at least to consolidate the projector, VCR, etc to make things a bit handier.  I'd still like to get a *real* universal, but this little guy does a lot for the $.

IMO, the All For One stuff is the best on the market.  It works with everything and accesses some pretty deep menu functions.  And they are cheap.....ya don't cry when ya loose 'em or step on 'em.

Good choice!

Agreed - they are great.  Especially if you pick up a JP1 cable and fine tune using the free software that is available.  It isn't easy-to-use, but it's very helpful.

I've been most pleased with this one.

Runs everything I've got, even the lights!

Best of all, didn't cost me anything extra as it came with my receiver.

Just don't wanna replace it. :o Ouch!

Is that the model number?  One for all 8 component job?  I was looking to get a Mx-500, but for 20 bucks I'll give this a try.

On the package, it's just called "One For All Learning Universal Remote Control," but at the bottome of the manual it's got the number "URC 8810W".  It's not the be-all, end-all of remotes, but it's worth the $20.  Wal-Mart carries it, although Best Buy sells a remote that's nearly identical except for the inclusion of a small LCD window.  Same brand but $50 instead.

They claim they have the deepest preprogrammed code index in the industry, and I can attest to the thoroughness (I haven't stumped it yet, even with some old, old stuff).  If it doens't cut it in the main rig, just use is for something else.

I doubt it will run every function of every component (at least not without some teaching) but it sure covers the high points.  It's not on the same level as the MX-500 (it doesn't have as many learning functions) but hard to beat for the price.  Plus if you buy it at WallyWorld, you can certainly return it if you don't like it.

I have the 8811 (which I assume is the same, or similar to your 8810).  Take a look at this site: http://www.surfremotecontrol.com/OFA-8811.html

Good prices, but also links to the JP1 interface (they sell the cable there as well).

Mine is exactly the same shape & button layout but diffent color (mine's all silver).  Plus mine doesn't have a "Jp1" or whatever input.

Cool, I'm just looking for 3-4 components worth.  I'll give it a shot for 20 bucks.
