VR4JR-MKII thinking of upgrading to VR-35
« on: 23 Jun 2013, 09:11 pm »
I have a very nice sounding pair of VR4JR-MKII that are bi-amped with Rogue M-150 MB feeding the M&T and B&K Ref 200.7 feeding the bass module along with a VSA Visiun CC. I have been thinking about upgrading to the VR-35. And wondering if anyone has gone down this path and how are the sound differences. i like the idea of placement flexibility as the VR4s are a little finicky. I will have a chance to demo the 35s, but it will not be with my gear, in my room so a little leary. though I will obviously be able to bring my own music, so i should be able to get a good idea as to how they sound.

Also, how do I tell for sure if mine are the MKII? On the back it just says VR4JR...No MKII designation. Not that I really care, they sound beautiful, but when I go to sell them I want to properly represent them.

Thanks,

Lou

I think the best person to ask is Damon (Von Schweikert) he went from VR-4jrs to VR-33s in his personal home system. Another one to ask would be O.D. Yeo who went from Jrs to VR-35s. Looking at your center speaker however, I can't help but wonder if there would be some way to snag a used pair of MK2 VR-4 SRs.

I'm using SR Mk3s with a ViSiun Mk3 and the sound is seemless across the front.

That's an option I'm considering as well. I do remmeber that the Visiun was timbre matched for the 4SR, just concerned about placement since they are somewhat larger than my JR. I will check with Damon, great suggestion.
