Wireless Network Music Players help!! Itunes?
« on: 10 Jun 2013, 12:06 am »
I plan to do a wireless music player setup. Can anyone tell me what brands they went with(Musicplayer, etc) and why? I listened to a naim the other day and was pretty impressed. I was wanting to use my itunes music library to pull the music from and use an ipad or droid to play the music from.1 Issue that I have is getting itunes loaded onto an external hard drive. Maybe someone else has explored this and has some good ideas. Thanks for any help!!

What's your budget?

Bought an iMac last Christmas and am planning on setting up a wireless feed to a very casual/second system (the 12 year old receiver died) and wondering why not just do Apple Airport Express and control with an iTouch (have no smartphone/iPad and am a computer idiot).  For less than $350 (for AE, 3.5 mm to dual RCA cable, and iTouch) it should be a mindlessly simple solution and adequate for occasional background listening.

The sky is the limit for spending on wireless if you want elegant/high quality solutions.

I loaded Itunes music on a seperate external HD when my library had become too large. If you go to Apple support and type it in, you will get the step by step instructions to do this. It's not hard, just a few changes on some menus on the Itunes program and some time to copy your music over from your computer HD to the external HD . The more music you have, the more time it takes. Also if you files are big, like lossless files, it may take a long time. Remember this; Once you have completed the transfer and all your music is designated to the external HD you will not be able to access your music library while your external drive is disconnected. You will see the Itunes icon on your computer, but once you open it, it will be looking for that external HD where your music is stored!
