LOGITECH Squeezebox touch Vs linux Mpd USB
« on: 3 Jun 2013, 07:45 pm »
Common setup:

DAC :Tubedac-11
XO : DCX 2496
Amp :Ncore 6 channel
Speaker :DIY Raal, scanspeak and AE 15.

So, i got a logitech squeezebox touch with a channel audio upgraded power supply and i have another custom PC with Linux MPD connected to same dac as usb and Logitech by coaxial.

The difference is huge.

Volume: i can hear much cleared and better with less volume on coaxial then usb. For same level i need to increase the volume of DAC if connected to MPD.

Highs   : They are crisp . I can poinpoint where it start and end.

mids: Found same at both

Lows: Bass is well defined with Logitech vs Linux MPD.

not much fo word guy but thought i share my experience with forum

I suspect the differences which you hearing are the differences between the USB and SPDIF inputs of your DAC.  Do you know any details of the implementation of the USB input?

Have you implemented EDO on the Squeezebox Touch?  The Enhanced Digital Output software upgrade in combination w/ an asynchronous USB DAC which are fairly common and inexpensive will provide a huge upgrade over current sound quality.
I expect the bulk of your library is ripped RB but this upgrade could begin to get you into hi-res material.
