Attention Pro-Ject 1 Xpression iii owners.

As luck would have it, I decided to change my cartridge and in the process broke one of the tonearm wire. Annoyed as I was, it occurred to me that the wire is somewhat rubbery, and stubborn to solder back onto the clip. After a frustrating 15 minutes, I had enough. I decided to rewire it. After reading about the Cardas wire and the good review it received, I ordered some. Three days before the wires are delivered, I will certainly need to satisfy my vinyl crave.
I decided to use an HDMI cable I have and use the wire from it. Half hour or so later I had it all wired and ready to roll. How will it sound I asked myself.

Well. Nothing short of outstanding. It makes the original sound like listening to music underwater. I could not believe the massive difference. Everything is now airy, deeper bass with wonderful mids.

Bottom line. Rewire it and the TT now competes with the big boys.

The rewire process is quite simple. Remove the output jack box screws, after that attached a fishing lead wire to one of the old wire. After the lead wire is through the head shell, attach the new wires and pull through. There is a rubber washer, remove it so that the wires can get through easier. The washer is easy to put back in.

Yeah, I have a debut iii that I decided to give a rest after snapping one of the tonearm leads.
I just decided to move on to a table that is easier to change cartridges. I'm glad your rewire went well. I may give it a shot one day.

Thanks. I believe that the clips on the Pro-ject are crap. I agree with you, so I changed mine. Even if you use the DIY clips from a PC serial port from Rat shack it will be better. I changed mine to some JA Mitchell from flee bay for $20.00. So much easier to change cartridge.
