How does the Panasonic SA-XR10 compare to the '25 & '45?  It's getting harder to find the other models, so I'm curious about this one.

Christof, they are 4 ohm stable.  I have a pair of 4 ohm M8a mkIV's running off my XR-45.  No probs.  See my two threads entitled "Digital Amp Question" from a couple weeks ago.  Several people responded to each, saying no prob and I've since tried it and would agree.

Er, Rob, sorry to perpetuate the thread hijack, but re the XR-10 question, I don't know...   :D  Given the sequencing of the other models numerically, I'd guess it's below the 25 & 45 (now 50 and 70, respectively...) on the food chain.

I think the XR10 came out before the XR25 and XR45.  Seems like it was their first implementation of equibit.
Got this from DIYAudio forums:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=b312ed654f5291b9b3733dd6f50572aa&threadid=7754&highlight=
The Panasonic SA-XR10 (AV receiver) is the first commercial product that I've seen to use a TI Equibit chip. I haven't heard one, but I did buy the service manual which has the schematic. It's using a single switching supply for all five channels. Depending on how good the supplies bandwidth is, I've wondered if it has any cross-talk issues (at least it has a good separation spec with a 1KHz test tone, but it'd be interesting to 'listen' to the supply with another amp coupled to its rails by some caps while real music is going through it (one of my preferred methods for evaluating supplies)).

So not technically below or above but before.

From what bits and pieces I recall reading the '10 was almost a prototype effort that is underpowered, but better quality sound/build than the '25/'45.

I have the XR10. Not super powerful but it sounds decent.

I have a 10 and a couple 25's, and while it's been a while since I did a real A/B, to my ears the 10 lacks the detail that really grabbed me with the 25.  The 10 may be better in the treble, though - an area where the 25/45 are sometimes criticized.

Technically, the 10 is basically just the TI reference board with a power supply, which makes it a good candidate for serious mods as the amp board can be used standalone. Check the DIYAudio threads for a bit more info - a big SLA battery supply and direct I2S input could make a very interesting setup.

I agree with dwk that the SA-XR10 lacks detail but I'll also add it has a closed flat sound stage also when compared to the SA-XR50.  The 50 is worth the $100 extra over the 10 IMO, plus you get 4 dsp type sound modes which are pretty neat to play with.

Does the XR-10 keep the signal digital all the way thru the chain like the '25 & 45 do?
