Can not seem to select AES/EBU 1 or 2 inputs on the SP3

As far as I can tell, on the front panel top row the DIGITAL button to the left of the HDMI button (or on the remote the DIG button to the right of the HDMI button) selects between S/PDIF and AES/EBU digital inputs.

To do so, select Balanced 1 or 2 and digital.
