Products that provide digital stream from iPod(s) for less than arm and a leg?

Hoping folks can have some patience with an older gent here... :)

My challenge/goal/desire...Playback of digital streams from very inexpensive iPod Classic(s) into my recently acquired Harmon Kardon hk3490.  After all it's not Memorial Day unless your backyard is filled with low noise floor full dynamic range presentations from the Kentucky Headhunters and The Amazing Rhythm Aces now is it?

To cut to the chase...Is there a docking device that will pull lossless digital music files from iPod(s) and provide coax/optical output for input to the DAC on my hk3490?

Please say yes or at least post URL's.  Thank you.  Feel free to come by and grab a dog or a burger....

Regards

Mike B.

Hi Mike,

I will say yes AND post a URL:

http://www.pure.com/product/i-20-vl-61429/#Overview

The Pure i20 as far as I know may be the least expensive iPod dock (< $100) that can extract digital audio from an iPod.  It does have a built in DAC, but you can use the Toslink or Coaxial outputs if your HK3490 has a better or preferable sounding DAC.

There are quite a few others for more money, but the i20 does a pretty good job according to many users.

Digital docks from Arcam, Cambridge Audio, Luxman, Teac, Wadia and others range from around $250 to $500.

Yikes and many thanks for your direct answer, the URL AND an the explanatory video with the Brit voice over.  My desire for this connectivity and that damn convincing British accent will soon have me parting with yet another $100 bill for shit I don't really need.

Thanks a ton for your quick and actionable reply.  My debit card farts in your general direction.  :)

Cheers!

There's a thread about it here: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=93591.0

I've considered getting the cambridge dock as an upgrade (and for the AES/EBU output) but everything I read says that it would be money wasted.

The pure does feel a bit cheap in places (e.g. the woeful wallwart).

It is the need for a digital output that is keeping the price high.

Lots of LOD cables for cheap if you can live with an analog output for yard tunes.  Fiio makes a good one.

He would probably want one with RCA outs for the receiver eg:

I have two Pure I-20s and I really like the device. I stream MOG off my Iphone while on the dock. In addition to the good DAC it has built inside, one also has the option (as I have done) to output the signal to a better external DAC and into your audio system. Awesome device for the money!

I also use and recommend the Pure I-20. A great bargain, IMHO. :thumb:

Here is a solution that I have been interested in for a while. Pretty reasonably priced too.

There might be some additional info on their forum right here on AC.
