Why would you want an older Blu Ray player when you can get a new one for $99? Good question. If you want one just for video & that has wifi / buttons for netflix, etc, then a new $99 is the way to go.
But if you're looking for something that would also make a great cd player / transport & work well with older processors / receivers that can't decode the newest hi-rez formats, then this would be an excellent choice. The Pioneer BDP-51FD was up to 2010 a Stereophile call "B" rated Blu Ray / CD player. It has four (!) Wolfson WM8740 DAC's and sounds very good as a CD player w/ dedicated 2 channel stereo section / RCA outs. It's over built compared to most blu ray & cd players & makes for a great cd transport. This is the reason I've kept it so long - as a back up CD player / transport. But now that I'm fully invested in PC based audio, I have to admit that I don't have a use for it.
Another nice feature : 8 channel analog audio output. So if you have an older processor or receiver (like the Marantz I'm also selling) that doesn't support the most recent hi-rez formats, this will do the job.
I'm the original owner & this sold for retail @ $599. I'm asking $99 + shipping : perhaps the cheapest stereophile class "B" cd player you'll find! Also would consider interesting trades. Nothing particular in mind.
I have the remote / power cord / and original box, and maybe the manual (have to look it up). Up to last year Pioneer was still offering firmware updates that can be downloaded & put on disk to upgrade the firmware. I did it once early on, but haven't over the last few years.
