Amplifier for Sierra-1 / Raspberry Pi rig [PIC]
« on: 15 May 2013, 03:37 am »
Hey guys, I'm trying to decide on an amp for my inbound Sierra-1 NrT's. I have a RudiStor RPX-33 headphone amp / preamp, so I'm currently trying to choose between

1. RPX-33 + The Emotiva UPA-200 125wpc power amp http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/ultra-series/products/upa200
2. The Emotiva Mini-X a-100 50wpc integrated amp http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/a100

Will the mini really exploit the Sierras well? Will I get more out of them with the UPA-200?

I would love to hear other suggestions for amps. Clearly I don't need much in terms of features -- just sound quality.

Thanks in advance for any and all thoughts!

Adam

Dave steered me to the more powerful UPA-200:

if you are heading away from tube amps, the Emotiva is an excellent choice.  It is probably the most popular amp used with our Sierra-1 and I honestly can't recall a single negative comment on the pairing.

If you are going to go solid state, stick with the Emotiva UPA-200, the extra wattage is worthwhile compared to the mini.

Just a couple more days till delivery! .. . .

Oh, and perhaps not arranged like this, but here's my new Raspberry Pi rig destined for this setup. Different DAC/preamp to be used, too.
