I wonder what 5/4 planks of that stuff would cost? What a trestle table top that would make.

Probably about $422 plus shipping. I have two beautiful book matched walnut planks from Horizon Wood Products I'm going to use for either a side table or very nice rack for my electronics. A table would need 4 planks, the wood I bought is KD 6/4 Walnut pc 2: 22.8bdft @ $9.25/bdft = $210.90.
Even though it is extremely risky unless the wood is bone dry, about 5% moisture content, a solid wood front baffle on Salk speakers is an amazing thing to behold. I have solid mesquite but walnut should work too.
Horizon Wood Products cuts logs into flitches and planks and has some outrageous planks. I am making all my kitchen cabinet Craftsman doors from a flitch of cathedral arched 4/4 white oak, some of the planks are 16" wide so there will be no glue lines in any of the panels.
