Who's that Girl?
« on: 7 May 2013, 01:14 am »
I keep catching the tail end of some short clip on the local DC PBS station (WETA) of some young black chick with a big fro talking about the importance of music and features really short clips of her playing the stand up and electric bass (one of the clips seems to be at a SXSW festival).  Looks a bit like Solange Knowles, but definitely not her.

Stupidly they don't put her name up while she's talking so I can't figure out who she is, but the brief music clips seem compelling and so I'd like to know who she is & check out some of her music.  I guess I could leave the TIVO running to see if I can't catch the beginning & maybe her name, but if someone else out there knows what I'm talking about, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Here's the complete show from NPR's Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz in 2008:

Thanks guys!  Seems like I'm the last person on the planet to become aware of her - got to get out more.......

And one of the clips must have been from Austin City Limits, not SXSW, which wouldn't make as much senses, you get my drift though....

Such talent and so charming at the same time.  Very impressive.

Her first stage of prominence was at the Newport Jazz Festival about 5 years ago and floored everyone.
