can it drive big 3 way speakers ?

I'm thinking about trying out some tubes w/my VR4s, but i'm not sure the stingray can push them to the listening levels I sometimes go after (85-95db) w/o straining and sounding like ass.

I read a lot of great things about this integrated, and I love its looks.

a buddy of mine w/VR4jrs runs a BAT vk 60 amp w/them and they sing, but he can't get the DB he used to be able to get with solid state power.  no surprise there, and hes not disapointed.  Just plans on buying another one and running them as monos.

I listen to purely digital sources and my musical tastes are all over the place.   I mainly listen to live jam-rock stuff that ranges from techno-ish to Grateful Dead...which does require some ooomph.

I heard the Manley Stingray at HE2004.  It sounded lush.  I am not sure if it can drive power hungry speakers.  I would check the manufacturer's recommendations as they know their stuff.

It depends on what you listen to and the size of your room.

I don't think it will get the job done, but I don't have enough info to be sure.

Hey, Levi:

You might of heard the Stingray with the Joseph Audio in-wall speakers which should be a breeze to properly drive. That little set up did sound darn good at least with the DK track which is the only one used at the demo.

I asked EveAnna at the HE if she thought the Stingray could properly drive a stand mount with specs of say 6 ohms & 86dB in a medium sized room and she wasn't sure of this at all. She did indicate that a higher powered version of the Stingray might be something they would consider down the road.

though I dont see it on their www site, they offer an integrated (or did) called "the 100" that was 100wpc.

I asked Eveana, and she didn't know.  I think i'm feeling skeptical.

depends on whether yure running triode or ultralinear.  25w vs 50w.  but, i've heard it drive a pair of proac 1sc's and a pair of proac tablette 8 reference's in a decent sized (~14x22x10) room in triode, & it did fine.  the proac mini's are 86db/1w/1m, iirc...  if ya really wanted to rock out to metal or something, then put it in ultralinear, & add subs from the optional sub outs.

my room is 17w x 24long x 7tall.
the VR4s certainly dont  need any help w/bass.  shit, they sprinkle subs on their cheerios for breakfast!

their sensitivity is somewhere around the specs for the VR4gIIIse at:
89dB/1w/1m at 6 ohms nominal, 3 ohms @ 20Hz.

50w of tubes is still a fair amount of power, but i'd be a lot more assured if it were 75wpc.  then i'd jump on it.

The Manley 100/100 was discontinued a year or 2 ago.  The only integrated that Manley is offering right now is the Stingray.  It is set up at a nominal 5ohms.  I have one and it gives as much volume as you want, but my speakers are a 91.5dB sensitivity----real easy to drive.  The Stingray rocks, but like everything else in this hobby, it depends on it's environment.

If you are looking for a tube based integrated with a higher output, you might want to check out VTL.  I believe they have a 80w/channel integrated that has been well reviewed.  I gave it a listen, but preferred the sound of the Manley.

The other great tube integrated is the Cary SLI 80 which does have the power you are looking for.
