George Jones is a GIANT in the world of (real) country music and his passing is very sad. His shoes will never be filled. RIP...
I'm far from a fan of modern country music but I have always loved the music of Merle, George Jones and Hank Williams (SR). Oh, and of course Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Jimmy Rogers, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Tammy, etc. These artists are so far away from modern country, I don't consider them country by today's definition. Just great singers and true artists who performed amazing heartfelt songs. George was as good as any of them, IMO (except maybe Hank who was a true genius and the father of country music).
