Subwoofer amp - places to shop for one?
« on: 24 Apr 2013, 07:44 pm »
Thought I'd post here rather than the other circles, which are out of my budget.

I need a new sub amp, around $150- I think my 3rd Parts Express/Dayton amp has died. I don't know if I want to risk a 4th. It's just so depressing when equipment fails for no good reason.

I just don't know where to look. PE had a lot of choices. What other sites are there? My budget seems to eliminate the few places I've found.

I am considering a bash amp from o-audio, maybe a bash from PE

Apexjr is a place I have shopped at in the past, though I have not bought a sub amp specifically.

Too bad about your experience.  My first BASH sub amp lasted 10 years, my 2nd is 3 years in so far.

I hope there is nothing else going on.  I've got a Dayton 1000 watt plate amp, and it works great.  It's a big step up from the sub-par amps a lot of companies put into their units.

Just saw parts express has the bash amps on sale. I'll pick up one of those. Assuming that they give me a new replacement for the Dayton (it's under warranty), I'll likely sell that.

I've read very good things about oaudio. Check them out at oaudio.com. $139 for a 300 watt amp.
Not connected to oaudio, and don't have one. I went up the food chain for a QSC RMX 2450 to power two sealed subs, which need more power to go low.
Good luck.

Thanks all for the advice! PE is being kind enough to give me a refund, rather than replace, so I'll just get the bash from them.

o-audio version ($140) is nicer than the PE ($120) one, but since I'm using it with an avr where audyssey takes care of everything in the LFE, the features like variable phase, x-over control, etc are not much use to me.
