With the birth of my second child on March 28, 2013, I have decided to re-evaluate my priorities and as a result I have decided to let my analog front end go.
I purchased this cartridge about a year ago from a local friend who had 300 hours or so of use on it. I myself have probably only put on another 75, but for the sake of being conservative I'll say there is about 500 hours on the cartridge.
For the sake of full disclosure, about 200 hours ago the cantileaver got slightly skewed due to a cuing error, but was coaxed back into place and it has performed beautifully since with no issues.
To my ear still sounds great, and you may be perfectly happy as is for many more hours. But keep in mind, even after the excellent $250 SS retip, you will basically have a brand new cartridge for $450 that many say beats the stock VW....and maybe even higher models! I have seen lightly used VW, both stock and retips, for 500 to 550, so my price is cheaper.
