I own BDP1 for several months and I am very please with this upgrade from Squeezebox Touch which I used for a while. I run BDP1 with alpha 2 DAC (from berkeley design) and the results are very good. BDP1 reads my music from a network connected NAS server. I really like the idea of BDP1 - a server specifically designed for music playing by a well-reputed company sounds like a good idea compared to a generic laptop.

I was pleasantly surprised that a recent update of BDP1 firmware now supports USB output. I already tested it with Music Fidelity Vlink192 (connecting BDP1 to alpha 2). My first impression is that Vlink192 might work slightly better that the internal sound card inside BDP1 (not too sure on this conclusions as both alpha 2 DAC and Vlink are still going through breaking in period). I am also thinking to try alpha USB (also from berkeley design) as it looks like a good match for my DAC.

Did anyone else play with USB output on BDP1 (or BDP2)?
What is your impression of using BDP1 (or BDP2) with external sound cards vs their internal sound cards?

Does upgrade to alpha USB sound like a good idea (particularly since I have alpha DAC)?

Thanks a lot for any feedback.
