Amazon shipping from England question
« on: 22 Apr 2013, 06:41 pm »
I don't get it.

Looking at buying new or used CD's on amazon - the cheapest CD's are shipped from the UK for three bucks?

I know people make an extra dollar or so for their time shipping in the States but international shipping? And the cost of things in the UK is more expensive too as well as labor costs.

My only guess is that they have boatloads of CD's sitting in warehouses and they're just trying to dump them at a slight loss.

It's not just the UK.  I've gotten some discs from someone in Israel and the shipping was also $2.98.  It must be Amazon's policy that international sellers are agreeing to, even if they lose a little money.

Well, amazon's own policy is/has been not to make profits to increase market share.

Well, it is the same $3 shipping charge from Asia if you order on ebay. It must be flat rate from everywhere.

Amazon sets the shipping at $2.99 for it's resellers if they are selling CD's. Resellers can set the price at whatever they want. Resellers also have to pay a portion of the sale to Amazon. Not real sure how the UK resellers are making money at this.

I imagine they set the shipping for the convenience of the customer, not for their own profits.  We always know what to expect to pay for shipping.

Just looked again at shipping for CDs at Amazon. Amazon has upped the shipping to $3.99 for each CD.

In Canada, it was often cheaper to order certain CD's from the US Amazon Marketplace than from the Canadian Marketplace site when international shipping was $6.99. They recently upped it to something like $14 and change. I never see an disc show up here with more that $8 and change worth of postage on it. Somebody's getting a boost out of the new rates...
