I get the impression that reflections are frowned upon by audiophiles.
I have found in my room 25'x 11'x 8' with speakers placed along the long wall. That I can use the reflection off the back wall (concrete) to center the phantom stereo image. I noticed that the center image was to the left of center and just by toeing the main speaker out an inch or two I could move the image to center, which is reflecting off the back wall.
Of course I also listen mainly in multi-channel Neo:6 surround sound mode, which has a strong center image using a center channel speaker. The phantom stereo image is almost as strong as using a center channel.
I've also used reflections to mask speaker location in 5.1, setting up an extra pair of speakers and reflecting the image off the front wall.
