thinking of switching to file playback via PS4 with Vita as controller.

The PS4 (Playstation 4) is probably going to have more than decent quality output for digital audio. It will, after all, be a 4K movie player, so the audio quality must be up to par, and of course digital technology has improved since PS3 launched in 2007.

The PS4 will be completely remote controllable via Playstation Vita, through Wifi, so right there I would have access to my music library without having to look at a tv screen or pick up a controller. With the Ps4 running in the background, you can completely control that system, from any distance, even outside the home, with this:

Sooo. think I'm going to rip all my cd's to the PS4 when it comes out, back all that up, sell my cdp and all my cd's, and get a turntable. Hopefully that U-Turn Orbit whenever it comes along.

So I will probably end up PS4 and vinyl as source, Playstation Vita as my source controller, a Dspeaker Dual Core 2.0 (which then becomes the dac), and my Ncores etc.

 Sound like a good plan?

The Ps4 is completely Blutooth controlled.. My amps don't put out a lot of heat either.

The way I see it, I can tuck my system completely out of view, under my bed (system is bedroom), get rid of both my large audio rack and cd rack completely, have nothing but speakers visible. Wow, more and more appealing as I type. Look ma, no hands!

Do you know if the PS4 will do flac?

Codecs haven't been announced yet, but planning on just using the best quality rip they offer. The rumor is the system will launch with or be compatible with extremely large hard drives, so it could be a good assumption it will.

If not I'm sure there will be an app for it. The PS4 has been completely opened up to Indie development and the architecture is very PC friendly this time. Supposed to be extremely easy to develop for as opposed to the PS3.

I wouldn't plan on using something that has not yet been released to perform a function that it may or may not have. Even if it has that functionality, I doubt that Sony is going put a decent DAC in it.

I'm sure it will sound great. In fact, it will even have a dedicated audio processor, seperate from the APU.

The PS3 wasn't too bad on its own. The dac will eventually be a Dual Core anyway, so it's a moot point on SQ. Also, PS3 already has music playback, and offers music streaming services. I'm sure the PS4 will offer more of the same.
