What is the largest overall improvement?

ST to SST
SST to SST2

It comes up often, what is the biggest gain ST/SST/SST2?

It is an oft asked question.  Should I buy an ST, SST, SST2?

So for those who have moved up the chain, where was the biggest gain?  No question that each generation is better than the last, this is Bryston after all.  This question is around the biggest improvement, amplifier only.  Regardless the other gear.

Okay, here we go again.

I have used the 3B ST, 3B SST and the 3B SST/2 with my Paradigm Studio 100 v2. Without bass heavy speakers the differences might not be apparent. But when I upgraded from the 3B SST to the 3B SST/2 swapping out only the amp,( everything else was the same). Using the Bcd-1 as my source and Yamaha Receiver. I estimated there was like 30% improvement in overall sound quality with the SST/2.

The tone of the amp sounded the same as 3B ST, SST, but there was more bass vibe (articulate bass) and the highs were more linear, with better control of the tweeter, which was obvious when I also had my B&W DM601 S3 hooked up for a brief time.

I also noticed but not right away, took about 2 weeks. That the SST/2 was processing details in the recordings that I had not heard with the SST albeit only marginally. I understand this to mean that details were there all along using the BCD-1 just that lesser amps are not linear enough to hear these subtle details.

Having gotten use to the 3B SST/2 with the Studio 100's, the other amps sound lean in the bass frequencies. I cannot live without the SST/2 for my front mains.

I still use the 3B SST for my center channel and the 3B ST for surround duty in my multi-channel set up. :smoke:

I also feel the jump from sst to sst2 is the biggest improvement.
