Record Store Day 2013
« on: 11 Apr 2013, 11:27 pm »
Haven't even begun to look at the list yet,
I will be going to Grand Rapids, Michigan, The Corner Record Shop (actually in Grandville)
and will probably finish up at Vertigo Records in GR.

Anybody else?

BTW, it's Saturday 4/20.

OK, is there any chance that the Razor & Tie release of the first five Emerson Lake & Palmer albums on picture disks could sound any good?

I've never been a fan of picture discs. Never found one that sounded worth a crap.

I didn't see a lot I would be interested in acquiring. I'll be in Columbia MO attending Mizzou's spring football game. I hope to find time to make to the city's record store.

I don't know if we will make it out to a store or not.  Love the Corner Record Store tho, ortho, but it's 1.5 hour drive.  Pralley same for you.

Don't think there are any new releases I'm interested in only the stuff they've been saving for the day.  :D

Very excited about Phish "Lawn Boy". They did such an amazing job with Junta last year. I am sure this one will be great also.

You're right, I missed that when I went through the list. I bought last year's.

I was in a store today and know the owner. I laughed when he showed me the titles. I've seen the titles from the RSD website and there's maybe two that I would like to have but wouldn't pay a dime more or wait more than 10 minutes for in a store full of people.

I am going to have to get to my store early. The manager mentioned only three copies of the ONE album I will cry about if i cannot grab it. (He said he ordered 20 !)
So two hours before opening should get me in a good position to get a copy.
I want about five items.. Hope they are available.

There is one store by me (Permanent Records) will open their doors at 5AM. This is just crazy. I bet there will be all night campers. Turning into a Black Friday frenzy no doubt.  There are a couple of records that I would love to get, but I'm not that desperate.

We have the luxury of a couple a dozen record stores in the S. Jersey/Philadelphia area, so no long lines or issues, plenty of space for everyone.  I have four or five within 15 minutes, 1/2 hour - 40 minutes to get to any of the rest on the list.  The Record Museum will be having the sale all day then a free concert at 7pm.

It's an 80 mile trip (one-way) for me to the Twin Cities, so I am happy to shop online as I have been. My wife will be in St Cloud, MN and intends to visit store the electric fetus there, but I gave her no items from the 'wishlist'.

Love The Electric Fetus. My go-to record store when I was in MN.

Successful day for me. Only one title eluded me, Big Mama Thorton's release.

The Band's Last Waltz
Joan Jett
Taj Mahal's Hidden treasures
Miles Davis' Round About Midnight
Willie Nelson's Crazy

Yet another unsuccessful Record Store Day for me

I love what this day stands for and recognizes but the implementation really just makes me feel like its 1990 something and i'm standing in line for concert tickets and by the time i get to front there is nothing good left. I don't think i am going to do it again. Don't like the crowds and missing out on all 4 of the discs i wanted just makes it worse... especially when the owner tells you he's keeping the only copy of the record you want the most.

Good luck to everyone else though, hope you guys get everything you want!

Joegator,

What were you looking for? Maybe an ACer could help you out.

Hello Rosco, i really didn't want to impose on anybody but sense you asked  The 4 i was looking for were: Dave Matthews Band Live, Mad Season, Blind Melon, and Phish LawnBoy (though the Phish isn't one i was dying to get it would've been a nice conselation prize). So if anybody knows someone who wants to sell a copy of one of these or knows a shop that has extras let me know.

Thanks!

I went by my favorite store yesterday, where the owner had set some stuff back for me- all early early jazz
I picked up several 10" of Beiderbecke, Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and Red Nichols along with The Bix Beiderbecke Story vol. 1&2 This stuff just makes your feet move.  Jelly Roll's "Black Bottom Stomp" is absolutely great stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVUyvwtHTnw
