Since a number of my responses to the "What LP's have you listened to recently" involved records I have not listened to, or do not intend to hear, I thought I'd start a new topic for curmudgeons like myself. Will be posting a few lemons here from time-to-time.

I stumbled across a pile of Stevie Wonder albums in the collection that I've never heard and an Al Dimeola which I should probably give a listen to when I'm bored.

Here's one you are not likely to find. I bought this turkey because the artist, Billy Lee Ackerley, is a local yokel (Sheridan County, Wyoming). There is a small sticker top left cover stating "Collector's Edition only 500 made." I suspect 500 was the most Billy Lee could afford to have pressed.
The LP is on the "Nashville Connections" label, which was

 located in Big Horn, Wyoming.
Billy Lee is a tireless self-promoter. Just Google his name. A couple of his records made it to eBay -- one from a seller in Great Britain! How did that happen?

I've purchased the contents of an estate sale with hundreds of albums.  I weeded out about 300 and sold them to Princeton Record Exchange for a couple of dollars just to lighten the load, so you can find that number of the ones I never listened to up there.  There are still another few hundred here in a spare record shelf, I could post a pic every day for a year.

Any and all jazz recordings; female jazz vocalists; 99% of classical music recordings; any and all Hip-hop and rap recordings; any and all big band recordings; any and all opera recordings; any and all metal recordings; Kiss; Black Sabbeth; I'm sure there are some others, but I can't think of them now.

I suppose you don't like Sarah Vaughn too. Is her voice too perfect? Not enough soul for you?

I like Classic Rock too but I decided to get out of that time warp and expand my tastes. I'm glad I did and a side benefit is that Jazz recordings usually have much higher sound quality. They also can be more interesting because of the extended improvisation and harmonic complexity. After awhile I got tired of Rock's three chords and a cloud of dust.

The fact is that Carmen McRae and Sarah Vaughn will still be played a hundred years from now while the vast majority of Classic Rock will be dust in the wind.

However, no doubt that people will listen to the Doors, Beatles, Hendrix, etc. 100 years from now.

Never heard of Sarah Vaugn either.

There are a lot of variations of rock that are much more than 3 chords and a cloud of dust with extended improvision and harmonic complexity.

My guess is that The Beatles will still be played a hundred years from now too.

There is so much variety in music that there is something for everyone's tastes or should I say ears, and that is a very good thing. To each their own.  :)

Most classical. I have some, but I rarely choose to play it and I usually pass by it when buying new music.

Rap and hip-hop music. Don't own any.

Most popular country music.

Most Metal, other than Black Sabbath and Goth/symphonic metal.

Rolling Stones, Kiss, and Guns N Roses. Can't stand them (Mainly due to over playing by others in College).

The Cars, Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen. I agree with Laura on Hip Hop (totally sucks to me) If I spent a little more time I'm sure I could think of others

Don't right it off so easily. Start with OutKast's Aquemini. the vinyl pressing is all-analog and mastered by Bernie Grundman spread across three LPs. great recording, real instruments, great beats, fantastic lyrics, highly talented performers.

Most stuff from the mid 90's and earlier is from analog sources. The digital era was not kind on hip hop production.

The Miles Davis/Gil Evans collaborations of the late 1950's and early 1960's were musically fantastic. Unfortunately, they were recorded and pressed by Columbia. I bought all the LP's, figuring I could enjoy the music and try to ignore the rotten recording/pressing. With increasing age (both myself and the records) it has become a difficult listen. Some years back I bought a CD of "Porgy and Bess", also released by Columbia. The clicks, pops and general background noise were gone, thus highlighting the poor recording job. Guess the old saying still applies:  "You can't polish a turd."

+100

Then again, I haven't listened to my X-Clan albums in more than a decade, and probably won't any time soon.

Led Zeppelin II and III Classic Records. Just end up listening to the old Barry Diament mastered CD. The Classic sounds great, but the Diament CD is right there.

I've never listened to this 78 rpm album of an annual Al Smith Memorial. This four-disc recording on the Majestic label (unfortunately missing one of the discs) was given to me by a friend years ago.
These memorials are held annually. The most recent one, in 2012, was attended by President Obama and Mitt Romney, among others. My recording is of a much earlier event, obviously.
For all you youngsters out there, Smith was a four-term progressive Democratic governor of New York who ran for president in 1928 and was soundly defeated by Herbert Hoover. Because of his Catholic religion, Smith failed to carry the South.
He later became a bitter opponent of FDR and the New Deal.
And there is today's history lesson. A quiz may follow.

Just for the hell of it, here's a photograph of Alfred E. Smith, "The Happy Warrior", during his 1928 presidential campaign.
