Advice needed to what Preamp or DAC to buy
« on: 8 Apr 2013, 06:38 pm »
Currently i have

Onkyo -> TubeDAC 11 -> DCX -> NCore->Speakers

Music Server USB -> TubeDac 11-> DCX->Ncore->Speakers

so tubedac11 acts as a preamp...

Onkyio serves as right and left for movies only...Music server stream all my music through usb to tubedac11.

as you can see whenever i have to switch between movie and Music i have to get up change the dial and then change the volume manually...

i would love something of preamp which can take this out.....i am so far more then happy with the system but this getting up and changing the volume manually is not helpfull....

i was looking and only thing i saw i could replace was

DEQX HDP-3 or above ...this way i can sell my DCX and tubedac as this has a USB input and then Onkyo and music server can go to the usb...

any other Preamp or any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated...

If i had $1500 to spend on a new preamplifier i think that i would buy a SAS Audiolabs 10A.you wont find anything else nearly as good as the 10A in the $1500 price range.

A used Mytek DAC would do the trick.

The Mytek would do the trick.

Peachtree Nova preamp would also work, but since it doesn't have a volume bypass you would have to change the volume everytime you switched, but it has a remote.

A Bel Canto Dac 2.5 would work.  I've used mine as a pre and dac.  Balanced and unbalanced outputs.  USB, optical and 2 coax inputs, AES/EBU input and a set of unbalanced inputs.  I'm actually thinking of selling mine as its in the box in the closet.
