NuForce DDA-100 Promotion on Amazon
« on: 8 Apr 2013, 12:51 am »
After much debating on which amp to buy to integrate my stereo with my TV, I finally settled on the DDA-100.

I've had this thing on my wish list since I don't remember for how long.  Finally moved it from wish list to cart today and bought it.  And, I am pleasantly surprised to find the amp is 50% off due to "promotional offer".

I don't know what the promotion is as it doesn't describe what it's for.  And, it doesn't tell you anywhere that the product is being promoted.

Funny thing is I've been spending a lot on small stuff here and there on my other hobbies.  And, my was making fun of my spendy habit.

So, when I clicked to purchase, we both saw the 50% discount at the same time as my plamsa is connected to my laptop.

Perfect.  -= D

Btw, I bought a black one.  And, the product page says there's only two left in stock.  It said that before I made my purchase and also afterwards.  So, supply might or might not be limited.

The black appears to be out of stock, and the silver model is priced at retail, $549.  Looks like you got a great deal.

Are you planning on using the digital audio output from your TV or from a cable box/DVR, satellite receiver or video streamer?

Neither of my TVs (Panasonic plasma and Insignia LCD) have a setting to switch the audio output from default Dolby Digital to 2 channel PCM, although the majority of cable devices, satellite receivers and video streamers seem to able to.

Did you add to cart and go through the check out process?  It's right before you commit to buy is where you see the promotional offer.  Although, it might not be available with the white model.

Laptop via HDMI -> Panny GT50  via optical -> DDA100.

I never thought about the multichannel digital output issue as I only cared about the two channel audio.  Mainly bought it to listen to music with.  I am tegrating stereo with TV mainly due to space issue rather than for home theater.

I am not aware that there is a PCM option in the audio setting on my TV.  So, I would not be able to use the DDA100 when watching movies.

Well, I can do USB audio out to DDA100 while HDMI to TV from laptop.  Not sure whether I can do that but will play with it and see.

No, I just added it to the cart.  Usually Amazon gives you the purchase price at that point, however not in every single case, this may be one of them.

 :duh:

I bought a Plextor external USB Blu-ray drive on Buy.com for $25.00 shipped.  I was excited at the deal as they usually sold for ~ $100 or more.

2 days later, I received an email saying:

"We recently became aware that item Plextor PX-B120U Blu-ray Reader on your order contained information that was in error. Because of this, the product has been automatically cancelled from your order.

We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

Please accept the following $10 gift certificate as a further apology. See below for details on how to deposit, redeem, and then use your gift certificate on your next Buy.com order."

At least I got $10 to help deal with my disappointment!

Amazon treated you pretty well!  Too bad the seller for the DDA100 wasn't Amazon but NuForce, so I didn't get any gift certificate from Amazon.

It was Buy.com, not Amazon, but you're right that there likely wouldn't have been any apology gift certificate if it was not sold by the vendor, but instead sold directly from one of their marketplace partners.

IMO, treating you well would have been honoring the price, as that's their f* up.

$10? Come on.

Yes that would have been nice and I half expected that, but I've also seen mistakes made locally, like advertising a front load steam washer for $99 - they wouldn't honor it either (it was supposed to be $799).

On a side note, I've run across more than one Audiogon ad where the seller had enabled both the 'Buy It Now' and 'Make Offer' buttons, but the price was listed as '$0.00'.  I was tempted to click the Buy It Now button, but I was pretty sure the seller wouldn't honor a price of zero and Audiogon would likely back his clear mistake.
