Playing around today with the iPad and Dragonfly.  Had to use a 5V power supply.

Here I have a sequence of questions:

What is the encoding of the files?

I see that it needs to be a AC bound system, what made you go this route rather than a Mac+USB+headphone route?

How does it compare sonically with a PC+DAC+headphone system?

Your setup is surely ingenious.

The files are iTunes AAC.  The black box holds 4xAA batteries so it is portable.  Usually I use the Macbook/Audivarna Plus, Bottlehead Crack amp.  But I was just experimenting.  The sound is quite good.  With the Macbook I can play hi-rez files (HD Tracks).  Nice if I want to take the iPad out on the Deck....

How long do the batteries last?  Any audible degradation as the batteries discharge?

Don't know yet.  Only put it together today.  Spent about and hour listening.  NiMH in pack.  I think if voltage drops too low the iPad will kick the Dragonfly.
